Registrations are coming in for Dulcimer Day. It's great to see a handful of new people signing up. Of those who have signed up so far 85% have signed up with senior or student discount. Several youth are also signed up for this fun day of music. All ages are welcome. Less than 2 months to go. We're feeling a touch of spring and evening the evening temps have been above freezing and more and more grass is appearing every day. It will be at least another month until flowers bloom and instead we can see the beautiful shapes of the icicles in their changing melting state.
I'll put out a reminder that you don't need to know how to play instruments to attend Dulcimer Day. Mountain dulcimers are for rent and the classes will take you through the basics and give you plenty to work on as you are introduced to what these American folk instruments can do.
Schools hardly touch on folk instruments and stick to band /orchestra instruments or maybe a drum experience. Piano lessons are readily available in most communities. With attending Dulcimer Day you'll have the opportunity to learn about several folk instruments - mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer (came before the piano), autoharp, ukulele, and yes even build skills playing the guitar.
Hope you can make it and stay all day. There will be two concerts in the day. More time to hear from wonderful musicians. We learn by listening, by reading, by sharing, and by playing.
Open mic still has openings. It is held just after the dinner meal.
