Dulcimer Day Earth Day special

To celebrate Earth Day a special discount is being offered for Dulcimer Day registration.  If 2 people register together the 2nd person's registration is half off.  Meals, tshirts, etc. excluded.  This offer is good through April 22 via PayPal or postmarked by April 22.

Thank you to those who have signed up already.  The paper brochure was mailed this week.  If you would like a paper copy just send an email and let me know.


Would you to be an emcee at the daytime or evening concert?  You would be in charge for introducing the musicians and making a few announcements plus keeping the show rolling.  I'll have a time schedule for the musicians' sets.  

Also, a helper a the morning registration and for a bit during the day at the performer CD/book table would be helpful.

Colors - then winter approaches

I'll have to admit I like this time of year.  There can be a storm here and there but also days with clear skies and clear nights.  We watched part of the lunar eclipse tonight and the blood moon effect with a reddish glow to the moon behind the shadow.   Trees have begun their show of colors into the yellows, oranges, and reds.  I like to get out of Duluth for a bit and see the tamaracks glowing yellow-brown as their needles change before being shed.  Colors are everyone.

With viewing dulcimers have you noticed shades of wood colors.  There is almost a rainbow of colors to woods.  Shades of walnut wood are not all the same.  Cherry varies, too.  Even ebony fretboards -- note I have 4 dulcimers in stock with ebony fretboards in stock - are jet black to dark brown.  Nature is a continuous color display.

We stopped by today at one of the 20/20 artist studio tours today.  I like Nikki Johnson's paintings.  She has illustrated several children's books with Joy Dey as the author.  We bought a few items from here including an original of a bear climbing a tree and the northern lights are in the background and a glow of fire flies are in reach.  I love her work, especially with wild life as the subject.  

It's still September but the setup of the next Dulcimer Day is beginning.  The fest day for 2016 will by May 14.  This is a week later than usual.  I'll be lining up instructor/performers soon.  If you would like to suggest someone let me know.

It's here; It's coming

2014 is here and is a full year ahead of cool opportunities to make music, share music, listen to music, be inspired by music, learn new music, have fun with music, and be moved by music.

It's coming - refers to Dulcimer Day in Duluth which will be May 3, 2014.  The main guest artists are very talents players and good at teaching.  The more complete bios of the guests will be up shortly as will the schedule, class descriptions, and registration information.  Look for it by about January 18.   The guest this year will be Gary Sager, Debbie Peters, Rick Thum, and Dick Kimmel.  Rick and Dick have been a part of DDD before and are excited to return.  Gary is coming from Ohio and Debbie from central Wisconsin are new to this fair.   Class will include mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, banjo, mandolin, and songwriting.  Potentially a few more extra classes may be added on singing and playing hymns. 

Vendor spaces are available for people who make or sell instruments or make local art/crafts/goods. 
There will be a Make It class this year with a local master herbalist and people will make their own garden herb sleep aid and learn more about herbs.
