There are more signs of spring in Duluth. The snow is melting rather quickly. I was "seeing" tuning pegs in the snow along the melting banks where little nobs project up on little rods made of snow. Along a road there were several in a row and I imagined the sound that could come out of a giant dulcimer and that was riding along its fretboard.
It's great to see people signing up from throughout the upper Midwest to come to Duluth on May 1 to the festival. Most have attended previous years but there is a sprinkling of new folks, too. Most are seniors and are a part of the family of dulcimer players and making music whenever they can. I'd like to see some younger families attend, too. The Make a Whistle class doesn't have anyone signed up yet. I want to take that class and I hope others will, too.
I have a lineup of intro mountain dulcimer classes coming up in March and April. If you live in the Duluth area it's a good time to take a class and then at Dulcimer Day you can not be a brand new beginner. Meanwhile, there are classes for new players, too. Time to pack up the load for the class tonight over in Superior. I love it when people are interested in carrying on folk traditions on this American folk instrument.
